For My Grandsons

Things You Should Not Do

Give up.

Steal.

Make fun of people.

Quit in the middle of doing a job.

Lie.

Put anything in your body if you don't know exactly what it is.

Run away from a fight, unless the danger is too great.

Lose and not try to understand why.

Lose your temper. Cool heads win wars.

Be cruel to animals.

Think that you will never get hurt.

Think that you can never become addicted to something.

Take dares. You have nothing to prove, and everything to lose, if you do.

Play mean tricks on your brothers or sisters.

Make a mess and not clean it up.

Eat dessert and skip your salad.

Cross the street where there is no crosswalk.

Do not take drugs to feel happy. Those drugs make you sad forever.

Don't start smoking.

Don't think smoking will help you lose weight. Quitting smoking makes you gain weight, but starting smoking does not make you lose weight.

Don't expect other people to take care of you when you are a grownup.

Join a gang or a club that sells drugs or hurts people.

Hurt other people who have not done anything to you.

Use tobacco of any kind.

Think that you know everything about something. There is always more to learn about anything.

Panic. Don’t be the deer in the headlights. You will end up road kill. Keeping calm and logical in the face of danger is among the most necessary of human character traits.
